Destiny
I've lived in North Chicago six years, from the West side of Chicago.
What did you know about North Chicago before moving here?
I just thought it was the suburbs.
What's been the best part of making North Chicago home?
I gotta say, going to school here and get them different opportunities and being able to work with the community…
Here at Community Days where the community is coming together like this was fun. Me being able to ride in the parade and see all these different faces– It was fun. It was a good experience.
What’s one thing you’re proud of?
I can say I'm getting through high school and different colleges and getting scholarships already. For like academic scholarships. I thought I couldn't do it, but I'm doing it.
Academic scholarships? Where do you hope to attend college?
Indiana State University.
What are you hoping to study?
Genome science. It's interesting, and I like the study of the body– the genes. There's just so much stuff that you never knew about until you look under the microscope.
What’s something interesting you've seen under a microscope?
It was a summer program through Summer Up— at Indiana State we looked at dead flies, and had to separate the boys from girls. It was cool.
Dead flies are cool… do you have any other interesting talents or past times?
I crochet. A cat ears hat. Like, a beanie.
I've been crocheting for two years, and I've had my own like little shop for about six months. The cat hat is a hot seller. That's the only thing I really sold so far.
Anything else you’d like to share? Something about you or North Chicago??
Um... get your pictures took by this man [This Is North Chicago] and then come in community days and have fun!
