I’ve been here 33 years. North Chicago is a wonderful place to live, and Community Days is our biggest festival.

What does a gathering like this mean to the community, or to you, personally?

You know, we were so messed up with the pandemic… closed in the house, we couldn’t go anywhere hardly. To be here, seeing faces you haven’t seen, talking to neighbors, getting together with people you haven’t seen in a long time— I’m just glad to be here around people. I’m a people person.

Yes, a number of people have stopped by during our brief conversation to say hello to you…

Some people know me because I’m on the Board of the North Shore Water Reclamation District, serving North Chicago.

My church is First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church, here in North Chicago. I've been a member there for all my life, and believe it or not, I am 78. I've been here all this time.

I'm proud of being a Christian… serving the Lord. I'm most proud of helping. If I can help somebody, as I travel, my living should not be in vain. I know that's from Martin Luther King, but that's from me, as well. For at least 35 years, that's been my motto.
